Our Story

JAA+D is a design-focused architecture studio dedicated to creating timeless residential environments that are both highly livable and deeply rooted in their context.
Founded by architect John Lombardi, the practice approaches each project with a belief that architecture should be thoughtful, enduring, and carefully crafted. Our work balances classical proportion, regional character, and modern functionality—resulting in spaces that feel authentic, refined, and built to last.

The studio works across a range of project types including custom residences, coastal homes, historic district work, and select commercial and mixed-use developments. Many of our projects are located in coastal communities where environmental conditions, local vernacular, and regulatory constraints demand thoughtful and precise design solutions. We are experienced in navigating complex zoning, historic preservation guidelines, and coastal building requirements while maintaining a strong architectural vision.

Our work embraces a restrained and minimalist approach, where simplicity and clarity allow architecture to serve as a beautiful backdrop to the lives of our clients. Rather than relying on excess, we focus on proportion, light, and spatial composition to create environments that feel calm, balanced, and enduring. Texture and materiality are central to our work. Natural materials—wood, stone, plaster, metal, and glass—are carefully considered for how they age, reflect light, and contribute to the tactile experience of a space. Through thoughtful detailing and material selection, we aim to create architecture that is not only visually refined but deeply experiential.

Our design process is highly collaborative and detail-oriented. From the earliest concept sketches through construction documentation, we work closely with clients, consultants, and builders to ensure that each project is executed with clarity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.

At JAA+D, we believe that the best architecture is both contextually grounded and forward-looking—buildings that feel as though they belong to their place while elevating the experience of those who live within them.

John Lombardi, AIA

Founder & Principal

John Lombardi, AIA is the founder and principal of JAA+D, a design studio dedicated to creating timeless residential architecture defined by clarity, restraint, and material richness. His work reflects a belief that architecture should provide a calm and enduring framework for everyday life—spaces where proportion, light, and texture shape environments that feel both refined and deeply livable. John’s design philosophy embraces a disciplined architectural language in which simplicity allows the character of materials and the quality of space to take precedence.

John received his Bachelor of Architecture from The Catholic University of America and his Master of Architecture from the NewSchool of Architecture and Design and is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). His work frequently engages coastal and historic communities where environmental conditions, regional traditions, and careful contextual response play an important role in shaping architecture.

Before founding JAA+D, John served as the Associate Director of Design at GreenbergFarrow Architects, where he led the design of large-scale mixed-use and residential developments. His early career focused on complex urban projects in both the United States and Asia, where he developed a strong understanding of large-scale planning, architecture, and integrated development.

During this time, he served as the design lead on several luxury residential and mixed-use developments in Shanghai, Zhuhai, and New York, gaining extensive experience in high-density urban design and international development environments. This background continues to inform his approach to architecture today, combining a global perspective with a strong focus on thoughtful design, proportion, and spatial experience.
